Melky Cabrera Creates Fake Website in Attempt to Avoid Suspension

It appears that San Francisco outfielder Melky Cabrera is digging himself into an even bigger hole after his failed drug test in which he showed up positive for synthetic testosterone.

Cabrera was put on a 50-game suspension on Wednesday and will miss the final 45 games of the regular season and if the Giants make the playoffs, he will miss five more games depending on how far they go. Any games that are not served this season will carry over to next season.

That’s not the end of the story, though.

Cabrera started up his own campaign in hopes of avoiding the suspension, even going as far as creating a fake website that featured a fake product. The effort was quickly thwarted by MLB investigators. Cabrera’s fake site scheme had the product that said it could cause a positive test.

Melky was having a great season for the Giants and was the MVP of the All-Star Game in July. Now, his whole season has been tainted with one positive test. He was hitting .346 this season with 11 home runs and 60 runs batted in.

The fake website ruse along with his positive test won’t be a good look for Cabrera moving forward. We’ll see if anything else comes from this story, but it appears that Cabrera will just serve out his 50-game suspension and hope that he gets to play in the playoffs.

The Giants are a half-game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.
