Author: Sonali

It was after Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz was tested for coronavirus positive that the MLB, NHL, and NBA — were put on sudden hiatus. Almost three months have passed since the halt took place, and sports in the United States have become as rare as a hen's teeth. Amidst all this unpredictability, some sports, have given the hope of returning soon, but still, the final decision hangs in the air. The NBA is one major play that has its preparations for reopening — the league has considered several cities for resuming the season — Disney World in Orlando is on top of the list until now and Las Vegas is also being considered. Let’s look at how the development in the NBA return of the season has taken place since the news of the owners resuming the game is all around.

Updates: NBA Return-of-the-season 2020.

May 21: There would likely be two sites for the play with the Eastern Conference to be played in Orlando, and the Western Conference in Las Vegas. It was estimated that the NBA in all, would need around 15,000 tests as every potential return will have to be tested that would include players, personnel, and the staff. The league tries reconciliation of the testing & safety protocols. This included creating interfaces for plenty of labs all across the country and making teams to have their accounts created with these labs. From the first day of the crisis began in the U.S. it has been a constant concern. Without any doubt, the league has concern for the finances, but definitely testing and getting those tests processed on time will definitely be the deciding factor for the return of the game.

May 21: Dinwiddie says while the game is slated to return on July 15, the practice sessions would resume from June 21.

May 25: NBA looks likely to forgo the rest of the regular-season games and move towards Playoffs. Without any reference to the conference, the league will seed 16 top teams after the games resume at Disney World. The NBA proposes that the plan will be presented by Adam Silver and the agreement from 20-30 owners will be required.

May 27: The league says that it allows family members of the players to live in the bubble city. But, this would be done only on some conditions — that would be allowing only a limited number of family members to be in the bubble city. The family members of players would only be allowed in the city after the first wave of the team gets eliminated from the postseason. And, the family members will be given the same set of instructions to follow during this time span. They have to follow the same safety measures.

May 27: Speculations come around with NBA planning to resume in late July or early August. There are also plans for the teams to organize a short, “training camp” and that will organize in their home cities. After which the teams will be traveling to Orlando for resuming play and scrimmages.

May 27: Chairman Jerry Colangelo gives confirmation for the 2020 induction ceremony to be placed to halt until 2021. There are assumptions coming about the ceremony to take place somewhere in spring.

May 28: The board of governors of the NBA is looking to vote on what should be the preparations for resuming the group. Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry gave confirmation on Disney World being the location where the remainder of the game is slated to happen.

With this halt, it is going to have an intense effect on the offseason of the league. The draft will most likely be taking place in September. There are speculations that in addition to the lowered salary before the game begins — the team will also have to work with free agencies. This will also change the strategy and dynamics of the teams if they can have their roasters in place before the draft starts.
