Barcelona Set for Season after Spanish Super Cup Win

Author: Raphael Minter

FC Barcelona has won the Spanish Supercoppa after defeating Sevilla FC 5-0 on aggregate. Barcelona’s dominance in the Spanish topflight has seen them prepare massively during the pre-season with Liverpool the only team to beat them.

This comes as a huge boost for Luis Enrique’s men as they prepare for the season’s opener on Saturday.

Anxiety and fear crept around the hearts of FC Barcelona after the defeat to Liverpool with fans and pundits contemplating if Barcelona misses Neymar Jr. who is out of the squad for an International duty at the Rio Olympics.

In less than a week, a five goal thriller has shown that Luis Enrique’s men have recovered well and are gradually settling especially at the back after Daniel Alves departure from the club leaving right back Aleix Vidal to adjust to the teams play.

Arda Turan has been Barcelona’s star man this pre-season after his performances against Celtic and Leicester City in the International Champions Cup and the two-legged tie against Sevilla.

With Iniesta past by his best, Turan has a chance of forming a formidable partnership with Sergio Busquet Burgos and Ivan Rakitic.

Luis Enrique is in for a great season where the team looks to defend La Liga, Copa Del Rey and win the UEFA Champions League.

Barcelona and Enrique Have Strength in Depth This Season

Last season, Barcelona nearly lost La Liga to the Madrid teams because competing clubs mastered their tactics.

Arda Turan replaced Ivan Rakitic in the course of games with Sergio Roberto also featuring when games needed to be turned around because the other five players Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr., Luis Suarez, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets are The Untouchables.

This season, Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes have joined the setup to supplement the performance of the midfielders.

At defense, Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne have been brought in to assist the defenders as FC Barcelona remains in competitions right to the end of the season.

Luis Enrique has also found another scorer in Arda Turan who is going to relieve Messi, Suarez and Neymar of their goal scoring duties.

With Real Madrid winning the UEFA Super Cup and Atletico Madrid preparing for upcoming campaign, the signings Barcelona has made would prove invaluable to the team’s success.

FC Barcelona kicks off the 2016/17 season on August 20 against Real Betis at Camp Nou at 9:15am PST.
