Major League Baseball Gets Approval To Start The Season In July 2020

A wave of relief washed over baseball fans in the US when Major League Baseball announced its return in July 2020. With sporting activities and events canceled or postponed amidst the coronavirus pandemic, this was great news for all. Summer season is officially for sports rivalries and madness in the US, and people were missing their yearly rituals dearly. So the MLB team owners decided to bring back the games and give supporters something to cheer about.

What is Major League Baseball?

For over a century MLB has been serving the country with the most entertaining baseball battles. The games have become increasingly popular after the League was founded in 1903. It stands today as the most successful American professional Baseball organization. 30 teams participate in this League, 15 from the National League, and another half from American League.

These two organizations were not formed simultaneously but came together in cooperation when MLB began. However, they wished to remain separate and did not merge as one. All of the teams come together in a show of ideal professional baseball annually.

The sport of baseball gained insane popularity in the third and fourth decades of the 20th century. Since then regular reforms and new introductions have held onto the public. In the 1990s, the NFL reduced the game's popularity. But the loyalty of Americans has stayed with the game. It is still seen as a sport that has witnessed and endured the history of the states.

Teams of the MLB

With an astounding number of 30 teams playing the league, MLB is undoubtedly one of the largest viewed and supported. These 30 teams have supporters ranging all across the 50 states. Somewhere these are hated, some give immense love to the teams.

Standing at the top, the New York Yankees remains the most loved team and the most hated as well. According to a survey in 2017, 10 percent of voters favored the Yankees as the best baseball team ever. The Red Sox of Boston stands next in the queue, ready to take over anytime soon. It has 8 percent votes in favor, which are shared closely by the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves.

This picture keeps on fluctuating with 4 of them fighting for the top spot. Amongst the 30 teams, these 4 get the most power in business as well. Fans play a major role in making or breaking a team. Even though ranking the teams gets on the nerves of citizens, everyone loves to see the opinion.

Agencies keep on knowing what America loves and hates, and teams use it to their advantage. Other teams like Florida Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Oakland A's and Washington Nationals are some teams with the least fanbase. Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets, and San Francisco Giants also have a stronghold on the people. It is this fierce competition that makes the battle of baseball much more interesting and exciting.

Original MLB Schedule

Baseball enthusiasts all over the US were keen on the Major League Baseball games since the announcement of the 2020 schedule in August 2019. But the sudden outbreak of coronavirus pandemic changed everything.

The games usually begin in March or April, with postseason games happening in October, officially closing the baseball season. The opening of the MLB 2020 season was scheduled for March 26, where all 30 teams would have played a game. But the world has plunged into graver concerns than baseball, making people keep their minds off games or any other events.

After a month, the entire country was locked down within homes to stay safe from the dangerous infection. However, you can't keep America away from baseball for very long. The citizens became thirsty for competitions and rivalries as their annual game season routine was disrupted. So as soon as the restrictions are being lifted, players are returning to grounds for practice. And MLB wishes to serve the nation with classic baseball games very soon.

The New Decisions

On May 12, a meeting of MLB team owners happened. Sources say that owners agreed on bringing back the games. The date is not officially decided yet, but the stadiums can see the players on the ground sometime in July. However, to maintain social distancing and not risk the community spread of COVID-19, no spectators will be allowed.

If everything goes as planned, the entire US population will be glued to the screens in July for their favorite baseball games. The players will also be seen following all precautions against the pandemic, but as it is said, the show must go on.

It is a relieving plan for America to be getting their sports back slowly over time when stress surrounds it. Cheers for the MLB teams will alleviate the gloom!
