The ongoing negotiations and the difference of opinions between MLB & MLBPA look like moving in a sanguining direction. There may be good news coming from the owners soon — as there is some optimistic progress taking place. It looks like the two sides are ready to concur with each other’s opinions.
How the MLB Negotiation Standoff Looked Ceaseless.
It’s been quite some time, the negotiations were looking at loggerhead. It looked like there's going to be no end to this disagreement between the two sides. This standoff had delayed the start of the 2020 season. The discussion point of these negotiations moved around financial & economic distribution among players, and the owners. The league had proposed, players extra pay cuts other than prorated salaries that were agreed upon by both the parties. Quite recently, the league came with a proposal — wherein the highest-earning players would have to suffer the highest pay cuts while the least earners would get 100% of their prorated salaries or there could be small deductions.
The Good News for MLB fans.
Through these negotiations, neither MLB nor MLBPA was willing to give up grounds on whatever they wanted it to happen. This had led to a bitter deadlock that looked like the negotiation was heading towards nowhere. But, finally, the good news for the MLB fans have come up -
It is being said that the MLB owners have agreed to the players’ demand. Players would be paid the full amount of their prorated salaries according to the number of games they are playing — as agreed upon in March this year.
The shorter regular season — 50-60 game Proposal.
According to this new agreement, it is going to be a much shorter regular season with 50-60 games range games to be played. While in its previous proposal, MLBPA had suggested a prorated salary over a 114-game season.
Looks like owners are ready to give up some chips at the bargaining table — the negotiation is moving forward in a positive direction. That’s good news for everyone — the fans, players, and the owners. The news is up-and-coming — finally, we can hope to see some baseball happening for real!!
However, the proposal of a 50-60 game looks pretty low — but, it is more likely that fans would not complain about it — at least there is an end to this fault happening. The shift from 82 games is quite a significant one — but, if that is how we can see some baseball happening — no one would disagree. After all, we are finally going to see our favorite players on the field. Less baseball or no baseball? Of course less. This would do away with the concerns of both the sides — owners will have to spend less over fewer games and players would get what they expected.
Agreement on supporting the minor league players.
In addition to this, the news about the National’s decision of rolling back the idea of cutting the weekly stipend that is provided to minor leaguers. Zoom call happened between Nats reliever Sean Doolittle and his teammates where they agreed to support the minor league players. Doolittle said that “All of us were minor leaguers at one point in our careers, and we know how important the weekly stipends are for them and their families during these uncertain times. Minor leaguers are an essential part of our organization, and they are bearing the heaviest burden of this situation as their season is likely to be canceled. We recognize that and want to stand with them and show our support.”
With all those disagreements happening over many weeks, it is likely that owners will soon announce some good news officially for baseball fans!!
