The zing with which baseball fans are waiting for their favorite players to return on the field seems to be taking the optimistic turn. With buoyancy coming around last week with some new developments coming up in the long-standing negotiations between MLB & MLBPA — fans look hopeful of getting the MLB 2020 season in action soon.
In the month of March, both MLB & MLBPA agreed on the proposal of prorated salaries to be given to the players based on how many games they play. As per the sources, later on, the league proposed for an 82-game season, but the players were asked for a sliding pay scale. According to the sliding pay scale, the highest-paid players would have to suffer the most pay cuts & the least paid players could get all or would suffer a small pay cut in their prorated salaries. The players were disgruntled on this proposal, and there was an absolute difference of opinion from the players’ association.
The MLB 76-Game Season Proposal.
According to this new proposal, MLB has put forth the idea to eliminate six more games from the previous proposal, and the players would get 75% of their prorated salaries. In addition, the players would also be receiving the playoff pool bonuses given the fact the league is preparing to expand its playoff format for 2020 and 2021. The MLB 2020 season is going to end on September 27 with the playoffs slated to end in October.
After the last rejection that came in from the MLBPA, the MLB has come up with a new proposal of the 76-Game Season. According to this new proposal, players would be offered better salaries than they were originally offered. According to this, players would be paid 75% of their prorated salaries during the 2020 season.
Here’s how to brief the proposal:
How players are reacting to the new MLB 76-Game Season Proposal?
The speculations that this MLB 76-Game Season Proposal will entice players to move towards a mutual agreement, the reaction from players are coming the other way round. This new proposal is being seen by players as even worse than the previous one. It is being said that this will only guarantee 50% of their prorated salaries. This new proposal coming from MLB is a bad idea and is all about risk-sharing in the postseason. According to this new proposal, players would be receiving 75% of their prorated salaries only if the postseason happens, otherwise, they would be paid only 50% of their prorated salaries. This would keep them under high risk of receiving way lesser amounts, in case, due to coronavirus spread, the postseason is canceled. This will also mean that watching our favorite players on the fields in early July is definitely no piece of cake and it may get dragged around to August.
