The MLB is all prepping up to release its return-to-play schedule in the upcoming week for the 2020 season. This is going to be big news for the fans, players as well as for the league when the negotiation between MLB & the players’ association seemed endless, and even after two months, it ended with no real mutual agreement. With players ready to report to the fields this week, as asked by the owners in their last communication, MLB 2020 will return-to-play soon. Baseball fans can be sure about some exciting news coming soon.
The first game that fans are going to witness in the MLB 2020 season will probably happen between Max Scherzer & aces Gerrit Cole. Many legitimate sources have confirmed that the MLB is ready to release the remainder of its 2020 schedule in about a week. But, before releasing the schedule, with coronavirus concerns at the forefront, the league will have to clear & prepare for certain safety & health protocols. Before, beginning with the spring training 2.0 practice, the players must be tested for COVID-19. In addition to testing players, the MLB will also have to keep a track of the number of positive coronavirus cases in each of the cities. The league will need to be constantly in contact with the local government officials & health facilities before giving a final call to start training. However, there are still differences between some clubs on whether fans should be allowed to attend games or not, yet there are going to be finally some real MLB games happening this month.
While the full schedule for the MLB 2020 is to release in a week’s time as communicated by the MLB officials, we do have a couple of important dates to get excited about.
Players are expected to return to their camps, per the agreement between the MLB & Players’ association on July 1. For international players, most probably, this can delay because of COVID-19. The regular season will presumably begin after three weeks from the date of players reporting to their camps.
The MLB 2020 season will begin on July 23 or 24 (in the last week of July). On July 23, the league may schedule a marquee game or maybe two.
According to sources, the trade deadline may be moved to August 31 or to the middle of the MLB season 2020.
Presumably, the end of September is going to be the end of the regular season. This date will help the league in avoiding any game in October.
The End of the postseason will presumably happen in the month of November. With the fear of the pandemic spreading and many players getting tested positive for COVID-19 even before the training began, we cannot be sure about the dates.
The MLB and the payers’ association had agreed over the health and safety protocols to finalize a 60-game schedule for the 2020 season. If everything works as planned, and the safety protocols get in place, Major league Baseball will begin, in less than a month. However, with the hovering concern of the coronavirus pandemic, we cannot be sure about anything.
