The Miami Marlins have continued their midseason firesale by dealing star infielder Hanley Ramirez to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The move, which sends Ramirez and left-handed pitcher Randy Choate to L.A. for starter Nathan Eovaldi and minor-league right-hander Scott McGough, was just another deal the Marlins have made in the past few days after they moved pitcher Anibal Sanchez and infielder Omar Infante to the Detroit Tigers.
For the Dodgers, the move is expected to help in their postseason push despite his early struggles. While he is batting just .246 with 14 home runs and 48 runs batted in, it is an improvement over anything the Dodgers currently have at shortstop or third base. Dee Gordon is batting .229 with 17 RBIs for Los Angeles while third baseman Juan Uribe is hitting a low .190 with two home runs and 17 RBIs.
The Dodgers hope that the move and change of scenery will give Ramirez his confidence back and get him to be another bat to help Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier.
Ramirez also seemed out of place as Miami moved him to third base after they signed shortstop Jose Reyes as a free-agent in the offseason. Should Ramirez be able to regain his form, the Dodgers are receiving a player who has hit as many as 33 home runs in a single season.
