The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sent a long list of allegations to the University of Arizona. This list of allegations came in this week that was about the FBI scandal. Per the notice, there are a total of nine charges of misconduct of which five are under the level charges.
What is the Level I charge?
According to the rulebook of the NCAA, the Level I charges are the most serious of all. Three of the most serious charges include the lack of control by the head coach Sean Miller, no institutional control & the university failure to monitor the game. These serious charges have been registered against the University of Arizona by NCAA. the University though had said that it had received a notice from NCAA, but it refrained from commenting anything on the content of this notice.
The FBI scandal to date.
The niner allegations that have been levied by NCAA on the University of Arizona has been the most in the case of any FBI scandal to date. This has not been the first case of this kind of a scandal -- there have been notices served to other schools by the governing body before this. The cases that Kansas, Oklahoma State, NC State & Memphis are facing are some of the other cases that the governing body has served to other schools in relation to the scandal.
These cases are being investigated through a different body named IARP (Independent Accountability Resolution Process). The details of the NOA were shared with the IARP after the request from the UA came out that their case should also be handled by the Governing body that is handling the other scandal cases.
Who is at the center of the case against Arizona?
Book Richardson, the former coach is at the center of the case that has been filed by the NCAA, the Governing body. Among the 10 assistant coaches, Richardson was one who was arrested by the federal prosecutors. There was a case against these 10 assistant coaches that they have been creating pressure on certain players to financial advisers. The case came to light in 2017 when Richardson was proved guilty in the federal court. He was charged for being a part of the deal in exchange for money & served a prison sentence last year.
Per the reports, Miller’s involvement surfaced from the tape where he was heard talking about some kind of a payment to a former five-star prospect. He was heard talking to ex-Arizona star Deandre Ayton about signing some kind of a commitment with the wildcats. In 208, Miller was also taken out of one of the games after the report surfaced. But, since then he never faced any punishment for the crime, but the recently talked about head coach control charge is a serious one and he might face some serious punishments.
Per the rulebook, the University will get a total of 90 days to respond to the allegation by the NCAA, and further, the NCAA will be given 60 days to come forward with a response.
