The training camp for warriors was delayed after two players were tested positive for COVID-19. The training camp will be delayed for one day -- the announcement came in from Bob Myers, the president of basketball operations. Per the Mayers, the training camp will be organized on Wednesday instead of Monday now. The team, however, did not reveal the names of the two players who were tested positive for the coronavirus.
It is most likely that Warriors are not going to be the only team to have reported two positive coronavirus cases this week. However, there are other players who are traveling back to their home markets from around the country, and during the offseason, they have not been regularly tested for the virus.
How will the Training Resume?
The training camp will now begin on Wednesday instead of Monday. And, before the group workout, which is to begin next week, only four players and four coaches will be allowed in the facility. Per Myers, all the players were tested for the coronavirus on the Golden State’s roster. And, in accordance with the health & safety protocols of the NBA, all the players who have been tested positive will be quarantined until clearance.
Myers, in a statement, said, “I don’t think this is unexpected with all the people coming back in. It proves that the protocols and testing are working, that was the whole point — to catch these things before we begin.”
Players can only return to the team after they have cleared the 12 days after the first positive test (this is adherence to the memo sent to The Athletic). All those players who are showing any symptoms of the virus will not be allowed. These players must pass the tests done by physicians of the league as well as the team.
Warriors Season games
This season, the warriors will be playing three preseason games that will begin on December 12 against team Denver. And, the regular season for the NBA will begin on December 22. As of now, the home games of warriors will be played at San Francisco’s Chase Center.
It is expected that more and more coronavirus cases will appear as the NBA season is coming closer. It is pretty obvious that a single coronavirus positive case will mean missing several games. During the 72-game compressed season, if a key player falls ill, it will impact the entire team. This season, the Warriors have more depth with Brad Wanamaker, James Wiseman, and Kelly Oubre Jr. The Myers can also sign free agents, if required, by using their disabled-player exception.
