Brooklyn Nets Begin to Build Their New Team

It seems as though the newly-relocated Brooklyn Nets are making a push to claim a top spot in the Eastern Conference and they started by acquiring shooter Joe Johnson from the Atlanta Hawks.

The deal that sends Johnson to Brooklyn will give Atlanta the expiring contracts of Jordan Farmer, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow and Jordan Williams, along with DeShawn Stevenson and Houston’s 2013 first-round pick that they had acquired.

Johnson gives the Nets another weapon to go with Gerald Wallace, who they reportedly agreed to terms with on a new four-year contract, and Deron Williams who they are trying to convince to resign with them as they add weapons into the fold.

It doesn’t stop there.

If that wasn’t enough, reports are now coming out suggesting that the Nets are in talks with the Orlando Magic to send Brook Lopez, Kris Humphris, MarShon Brooks and the Nets’ first round picks in 2013, ’15, and ’17 to Orlando in exchange for star center Dwight Howard. Lopez and Humphries are free agents, however, and would have to be sign-and-trade deals.

A move like this would certainly be enticing to Deron Williams and could allow the Nets to form their own team of star talent and give them a legitimate threat at four different spots on the court. Howard has said that the only team he would sign a long-term contract with is the Nets, do the trade seems to be coming in the near future if it can be worked out.
