Dayton Shocks Ohio State

The NCAA Men's Basketball tournament is officially underway and the upsets are in full effect. The first big shocker came when the No. 11 ranked Dayton Flyers took the the No. 6 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes into overtime, and then sent them packing on a late layup by Vee Sanford with 3.8 seconds left on the clock. Sanford, who spent two seasons at Georgetown before transferring to Dayton, had 10 points for the Flyers, but none mattered more than those final two that pushed the team to the next round. The game was certainly a thriller, featuring 15 different lead changes between the two schools that are separated by just 75 miles. The stats were relatively alike, but Dayton had an advantage in free throws, making 13 of 17 while the Buckeyes made 8 of their 12 opportunities. That discrepancy proved to be rather pivotal as the Flyers took advantage and the Buckeyes are officially one and done for this year's tournament. Sam Thompson and Aaron Craft did what they could for the Buckeyes, scoring 18 and 16 points respectively, but Craft was also responsible for 5 of the team's turnovers. That wasn't the only upset on deck, though, as the No. 12 ranked Harvard Crimson emerged with a victory over the No. 5 ranked Cincinnati Bearcats by a score of 61-57. The Crimson got a great showing from Wesley Saunders who scored 12 points and added three assists to his stat line. Forward Steve Moundou-Missi had nine points and seven rebounds for the Crimson as well. This game also featured a difference in the amount of free throw opportunities between each team as the Crimson made 17 of their 28 attempts while the Bearcats went 11-of-16 from the charity stripe. Sean Kilpatrick tried to keep the Bearcats in the tournament by scoring 18 points, but it wasn't enough for the team to overcome the deficit. There are sure to be more upsets so be sure to stay tuned to  the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament moving forward in the next few weeks.
