Stage Two of Tour de San Luis Goes to Italian Francesco Chicchi

Author: admin

For the second stage in a row, Italian Francesco Chicchi has come in first at the Tour de San Luis in Argentina.

The end of the stage came down to a photo finish as Chicchi and Omega Pharma-Quick Step teammate Tom Boonen finished the race, both with their arms raised in victory. It was Chicchi, however, who walked away with the win despite the team’s plan to push Boonen.

During the final sprint, Boonen fell behind as Jimmy Casper pushed Chicchi down the stretch. Boonen caught up to finish side by side, slightly behind Chicchi.

The victory in the stage gave Chicchi another stage winner’s time bonus, extending his general classification lead to 14 seconds over Juan Jose Haedo. Third place is American Jake Keough, who finished the stage in third place behind Boonen.
