NFL Pledges $250M to combat systemic racism over a period of 10 years. The National Football League with this contribution will support the battle that the African Americans have been fighting over the years. The sources have also revealed that the NFL is ready to work along with Colin Kaepernick, the American football quarterback & civil rights activist, on initiatives that he made to fight social injustice.
The NFL is ready to support Colin who has worked to take up this fight in the right direction along with other players. This is an important part of the game here — to be able to listen to our players to know what they need, and what they are going through. Because of the work, Colin had done a social justice platform. The sources said that players have always been an important part of this social justice campaign. The NFL is ready to engage with Colin to take this effort to the winning end. With his real and impactful work, the NFL could take this moment to another level. The NFL is willing to get him on board, which would be an amazing idea and could produce some real impactful work. There’s still a lot to work in this direction.
Following the murder of George Floyd, the NFL has come up with this collaborative effort to fight social justice issues. A statement came from commissioner Roger Goodell, who said that players should have been provided a better platform to put their points forward related to social justice. He also supported the idea of protesting peacefully against racism, and also showed his anger over the incessantly increasing cases of racial discrimination.
Apart from Roger Goodell, many other players, coaches & teams came forward supporting the "black lives matter” movement and condemned racial discrimination. Many NFL personalities attended the funeral of Floyd. Many of the Minnesota Vikings members also attended the funeral of George Floyd, who was murdered in Minneapolis. It is in Minneapolis where the protest started before it became a national movement. Also, recently, many NFL stars created videos that were directed towards fighting systematic racism.
Many players also came forward in the case of Kaepernick and how he must be given an opportunity to make a comeback to his career in the 2020 NFL. Players like Matt Ryan are of the idea that this initiative of fighting social injustice would open the door to the return of Kaepernick. Since 2017, Kaepernick has not been on the NFL roaster. He was the first player to have knelt down during the pregame playing of the national anthem.
Ryan said that “I think referenced that they have made mistakes regarding how they've handled peaceful protests and players voicing their opinions. I think they've recognized that they've made mistakes there. And as far as Colin is back in the league, I think he should have every opportunity to. He created awareness for a situation that, it's taken some time, but people are becoming more active regarding their response to it. I think, from that standpoint, his protest is being heard at this point, but it's taken too long. But I think he should have every opportunity to have a job and to have a spot at this point.”
