New York Giants to Support Social Justice

Following the shooting of Jacob Blake, the 29-year-old African American man, NFL players, and players from across various leagues are coming up to support social justice. In a similar attempt to protest against the social injustice, the New York Giants’ wide receiver Sterling Shepard & running back Saquon Barkley can sit out a regular-season game.

New York Giants’ take on this Social injustice protest.

Shepard & Barkley say that while they cannot say this on behalf of the entire league, however, they will surely talk about this within our groups & team. In a statement, Shepard said, "That's something that we're going to talk about as a team. I'm not going to comment on that until we do so."

In a similar move to show solidarity and take forward the social injustice, the Milwaukee Bucks stayed in their locker rooms & did not emerge. This resulted in the NBA playoff fixtures postponement last week. A number of MLB games, WNBA action, and most of the MLS matches were postponed. The NHL postseason games were carried on as were planned, however, a pair of contests were postponed.

However, laser-focused have been in the preparation of the 2020 season, Giants’ have never ignored the burning social issues going around the United States & their local areas. And, Jacob Blake is one of those cases that have ignited their consciousness for the very cause. To make room for the coaches & the players to discuss probable ways to show solidarity towards fighting the cause, the Giants’ delayed their practice session.

Coach Joe Judge on the Practice Delay & the Meeting.

Talking about the same, Coach Joe Judge said "We had some important matters to talk about as a team. We weren't going to cut those short, so I made sure we took the time to approach what we had to. It was a social injustice. We wanted to give our players time. This wasn't a distraction by any means, but it's a conversation we wanted to make sure we had a team. There are some things that are very important within the locker room and the culture, and making sure the players understand that… Look, we're concerned about them. They're concerned about us as coaches as well."

Judge further added that "I'm very proud of our team and how they've interacted. We talked a lot of back in the spring. We're not revealing everything we're doing internally as a team, but I will say that our guys are very active in the community. Very active as far as getting out there and making a difference. Obviously, we talk about a lot of the issues around the country on a lot of different levels. One thing we decided as a team is we're not really a bunch of talkers. That's not really our personality. There's a lot of people making statements out there, putting blanket things out there. We talked early in the process that it's okay to say something, but you have to back it up. Before we started going out there and making a bunch of blanket statements, we're going to be in a position where we're making a difference, and we're helping people in their everyday lives."

Giants’ 2020 season campaign, "#TogetherBlue"

The Giants' organization also announced the 2020 season campaign, "#TogetherBlue", which extends beyond the football-related issues. It’s a campaign aimed at pursuing continuous changes particularly focusing on social injustice. Right after this campaign was launched, there was this practice delay to discuss a way out for taking forward the fight. In addition to that, the Giants have also partnered with a multitude of organizations to play their part towards fighting criminal justice, racial injustice, economic advancement, education & more.

Even before this, when the George Floyd incident took place and all the bad things and riots were going around, team Giant wanted to do something where they could come together and bring about changes. The team has been since then looking for ways whereby the platform they have been provided can support social causes. The good thing about teaming up like this is — people come from different backgrounds and have a different outlook towards life. They can be brought together to create something that is positive.
