Rex Ryan Voted Most Overrated by Players

The Sporting News has conducted a midseason players poll with 103 anonymous players from 27 teams and of those players, 35 of them voted for New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan as the most overrated coach in the league. According to some of the players, they believe Ryan’s coaching style is over the top and his act in front of the cameras is over the top. Another player said he is a good coach, but not THAT good. Ryan led the Jets to two consecutive AFC Championship Games during his first two seasons, but they missed the playoffs last season and are currently on pace to miss them again. Part of the problem with that -- because a lot of teams miss the playoffs -- is that Ryan has made constant guarantees for Super Bowl greatness and has failed to come through with those promises. Prior to this season, Ryan hyped his team as having a chance to be the best squad he’s had since he started coaching them, but halfway through the season, the Jets are sitting at 3-5 and are tied for last place with the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East.
