Ranking the Super Bowl Commercials

Last night was a prime night for TV entertainment. It was the one night of the year where everyone gathers together to watch...commercials.

Sure, there was some sort of football game going on, but is that really why anyone watches? Mostly people are there to see which celebrities cameo in commercials and to take to social media to see who can be the snarkiest about the latest ad.

It’s not really about the brands. It’s a pretty safe bet that most people don’t remember what was advertised for in a particular spot, but they’ll definitely remember Heisenberg briefly appearing on their screen.

So here’s a rundown of the best and worst commercials from last night’s Super Bowl:

BEST:

BMW: “What is the Internet?” featuring Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric. Based on a oft-viewed blunder from the “Today” show, this commercial hilariously puts the two stars together again as they fumble their way through an understanding of the futuristic design of the latest BMW driving machine.

Coca-Cola: “Make It Happy.” If only it could actually work. The premise of this spot is that a drop of Coca-Cola running through the mainframe of the Internet could turn all the haters into joy. Nice idea, too bad the top YouTube comment on the ad is “In a world of sissies and losers, this commercial garners applause. Pathetic.”

Snickers: “Hungry?” featuring Danny Trejo. The “Hungry?” spots for Snickers have been going on for awhile, but the candy company brought its A game to the Super Bowl. The commercial also featured Steve Buscemi and the cast of “The Brady Bunch.”

Clash of Clans: Video game commercial featuring Liam Neeson. The ad takes Neeson’s star persona to extreme and hilarious levels. You really don’t want to mess with AngryNeeson52.

WORST:

Nationwide: A dead kid shelling insurance? Tasteless.
