Michael Sam Bombs at NFL Combine

Michael Sam had a great year off the field. His story as the first openly gay football player to be drafted into the NFL went viral. He won an ESPY. He got engaged. People could not get enough of his story.

But on the field was different matter entirely. Sam never made it to the offical game playing roster of an NFL team and didn't see a minute of playing time. He made a few practice squads but was ultimately cut by them all before the season got started.

He had a second chance to make it in the NFL at this year's veterans combine, but according to multiple sources who were at the event, Sam sucked.

Sam posted lackluster numbers, including a slower time on the 40-yard from that of his rookie combine score. One agent called it like it was, "My real honest opinion is that he was flat out horrible. He did not belong out there." But it wasn't just his sub par on the field performance that had GMs scratching their heads.

One scout said, "He thinks he's a superstar. It would be nice if he could do something on the field to back up the attitude." A GM elaborated, "The concern was that he didn't look focused on the game. He regressed."

One agent summed it up, "Here was a chance to show his determination and dedication and the GMs didn't see that." He went on to say, "I think there's a chance he could play in the Canadian Football League. He sells tickets. He attracts fans. And from there you never know."

So it looks like we won't see Michael Sam in an NFL uniform anytime soon. Sources at the combine say there's no chance he makes a team this year. Sam better hope his fifteen minutes of fame haven't worn out yet.
