While the world is searching for balance and recovery from the upheaval that happened due to the novel coronavirus, another league returned to breathe again.

Amid the ongoing disruption, the Premier League sets its foot as a sign of recovery. The 28th season of Premier League was around when the outbreak occurred, leading to its temporary shutdown and all other popular Leagues. The Premier League is a level 1 or top-level league in the English football league system, which is also known as the football pyramid.

This league has 20 competent or clubs interconnected with the other levels of the pyramid i.e. other leagues via promotion and relegation.

The Premier League went down on 13 March 2020 until 4 April, which later continued to mid-June. The authorities planned the reopening on 12 June but after considering the votes of all the clubs, 17 June got finalized as the safest measure. Now, 17th June is the final date, with excited teams and with empty stadiums.

A Quick Recap.

The players started their training sessions from early May while considering all necessary measures and protocols such as maintaining social distancing and wearing masks. Out of 380, 288 matches have been played already and this sits the estimation of 92 games left to be played.

The 2019-20 season’s biggest home win is in the name of Manchester City, with a score of 8-0 against Watford. While, Leicester City has the biggest away win against Southampton with 0-9 score, the same game that also witnessed the highest score of the season.

The crowd cheered in the last match, before the lockdown intervened, of Leicester City defending against Aston in which Leicester won by 4-0. The league stopped as Mikel Arteta tested positive for coronavirus and the schedule between Manchester City vs Arsenal gets postponed.

Which Team Has Performed the Best in the 2019-20 Season?

One of the names that buzzed a lot in this season is Liverpool. The greatest team of the England League that has won the title 18 times, and last won in 1989-90.

The 2019-20 season brought many record breaks for Liverpool, and they are on the track of breaking a few more. But it all depends upon their come back after such a long pause.

Liverpool was on earth-shaking performance in the whole season. With the beginning of the season, they scored 64 points in their 21 opening matches and set a new record, not only in Premier League but also in the whole European League.

The trail of their record-breaking performance doesn’t stop here, with the increased performance in the season, they hit a new mark of scoring 104 points in 38 games.

With their 21 consecutive home wins, Liverpool displaced Manchester City from its position of 20 consecutive wins. And now Liverpool is leading the league with 82 points, and the winning percentage of 93%. Out of the 29 games played so far, they have scored 66 goals in the season, two goals behind Man City.

Who is After Liverpool?

Coming to the second spot, Manchester City has a 64% winning percentage in which they have played 28 games and scored 57 points with 68 goals.

Manchester City has won the title six times including their recent win in the 2017 season. The city has won 18 games out of 28, in which 7 have lost, and 3 went to a draw. The last five matches witnessed 3 wins and 2 losses.

Kevin Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez, Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, and more are some of their top players who have shown a great performance in scoring goals and assists. In one of the interviews, Gabriel said that “I am very fit and ready to play.” He also said that he and his team have been training hard, and he believes that Man City is ready for the return.

What About Manchester United?

While United has won 13 titles so far, there is no hope for Manchester in this season. The Red Devils have 12 wins, 9 draws, and 8 losses out of the 29 games have been played. With the 41% winning percentage and 44 goals scored, the Devils are sitting at the fifth position followed by Wolverhampton and Sheffield United.

Marcus Rashford, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Anthony Martial, Harry Maguire, McTominay, and more are the gems of the team. It has also seen that the devils perform better when Martial, and Rashford fielded together.

This wraps up the discussion, and it is clearly visible from the stats that this season does not belong to the devils. Also, no team is as close to Liverpool's performance. The Reds seem ready to lift the title once again after 30 seasons i.e. 1989-90.
