Can the Ice Melt France at the Euros?

Author: Raphael Minter

Iceland has been the team of the tournament. With a great team and support from the fans, Lars Lagerback and his team has nothing to lose in their game against France.

France has exhibited sub-par performances as tournament hosts and had to rely on the services of the rejuvenated Antoine Griezmann to sail through to the quarter finals against an Iceland side that seems to be messing around but keeps causing damage to any team it faces, the last victim being England on Monday.

Didier Deschamps took charge of France after Laurent Blanc exited Euro 2012 at the quarter final stage four years ago against Spain with Spain going on to lift the trophy.

France also lost to Germany at the quarters of the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 and Germany went on to win the tournament.

After Euro 2000 that saw Deschamps lift the trophy, France face a psychological barrier of crossing over to the semi-finals of any competition they play after playing in the final of the 2006 World Cup.

Deschamps has seen it all and is the manager that can see to it that France becomes successful.

France and Iceland Have an Equal Chance of Progressing

Lars Lagerback and Iceland would look to upset the odds with the motive of having a strong chance of reaching the final if they eliminate France.

Iceland has played as a unit and has surprised football fans. Both teams came out of a goal down and recorded 2-1 wins. The world waits to see if the ice would melt France or would France go on to sail through and repeat what happened in 1984 when they hosted the tournament and won.

France faces Iceland on Sunday, July 3 at the Stade De France.
