Everton FC has made a bold step in challenging for spots in the English Premier League in appointing Ronald Koeman as manager of the club.
Ronald Koeman has been appointed to help the team advance to the Uefa Champions League amid performances from champions Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
On14th June, Everton announced that they have signed Ronald Koeman toa three year contract. Roberto Martinez took charge of Everton FC after David Moyes went to Manchester United. Everton FC’s performance under Roberto Martinez was near excellent but it soured in his last season as Everton FC finished 11th in the 2015/16 Premier League. Aside that he made the semi-finals of both the English FA Cup and Capital One Cup.
Everton’s placed fifth in the 2013/14 season and qualified for the Uefa Europa League in the 2014/15 season. The combination of competing in the league and cups as well as Europe proved to be the demise of Everton as they finished11th on the league log for 2014/15 because they lacked the experience and mental fortitude to be able to withstand the pressure that came with it.
Koeman’s appointment has come in the right time. The English Premier League is set for one of the greatest seasons ever amid the signing of not only players but also top-notch managers. Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola hold the stakes for the Manchester Clubs, Antonio Conte manages Chelsea after the Euros; Arsene Wenger still holds the torch at Arsenal whiles Jürgen Klopp and Francesco Guidolin handles Swansea City and Liverpool FC respectively for a full season.
HOW KOEMAN EFFECTS HIS PHILOSOPHY ON EVERTON
Koeman thrives on a defender who attacks opponents all the time and score goals to take some of the pressure off the shoulders of the strikers.
Keep John Stones
John Stones has lightened up the Premier League with his talent and performances at Goodison Park and it’s no surprise that many clubs are after his services. Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are among the clubs looking to notch him to a deal.
Ronaldo Koeman is a manager who commands respect and has the influence and authority to convince Stones to stay and transform him from a natural defender to an attacking defender who creates a perfect link between midfield and attack.
Koeman’s Reliance on Youth
Experienced players such as Gareth Barry, Steven Pienaar and Aaron Lennon have been in the Premier League for long and they are gradually missing out on the tempo and intensity the English game has to offer.
Ronald Koeman is all about youth as from his managerial experiences with Ajax and PSV Eindhoven. As the per the chance he gave to the likes of Mane, Wanyama, James Ward-Prowse he would give the same opportunities to Barkley, Cleverly, Gibson, Oviedo, McCarthy, Bešić, and Deulofeu. Football is all about youthful set-ups and Ronaldo Koeman would ensure that he also gives the Everton youth a chance to showcase their talents as well.
Lukaku: Koeman’s Weapon
Lukaku’s performance at the Euros started poorly but his two goals against Republic of Ireland has put him back on the radar of many clubs. Lukaku has enough potential to shine and Koeman is the perfect man to ensure this happens looking at how Graziano Pelle has been transformed to be the man leading the Azzuri at the Euros.
Everton has made a great start towards the 2016/17 season, a season that has the eyes of the world on the Premier League. Many teams would sign different players at the end of the transfer window but Everton has one in Ronald Koeman.
