What happened to Kevin-Prince Boateng?

Author: Raphael Minter

Kevin-Prince Boateng has been released by Italian Serie A side AC Milan. Boateng featured famously for the Rossoneri in three seasons and formed a formidable partnership with Ibrahimovic and Robinho where he played as a trequartista.

Injuries have worried many footballers in the game including Marco Van Basten and Ronaldo Delima and it seems it has prematurely ended the career of Prince Boateng since he is far from his former self.

K.P Boateng as he is known should have been on the radar of many clubs after the Euros ended on Sunday but the discussions on player transfers has eluded the retired Ghana International.

Over-Reliance on Boateng at His First Stint with Milan Contributed To His Injury Woes

Massimiliano Allegri assembled a team that relied on the power of one player at every department of the game except goalkeeping.

In defense, Milan relied on Thiago Silva, Kevin Prince Boateng in the midfield and Zlatan Ibrahimovic upfront. Boateng’s role was more difficult as he played with aging stars Clarence Seedorf, Massimo Ambrosini, Gennaro Ivan Gattuso and the versatile Andrea Pirlo.

The responsibility on Boateng’s shoulders increased as he had to intercept opposing plays and also create goal scoring opportunities whiles scoring in the process.

This made Prince Boateng a starter who could not last the entire duration of matches because he had problems with his knee and became injury prone.

To add salt to injury, Milan ushered out the old era of Andrea Pirlo, Gianluca Zambrotta, Filippo Inzaghi, Alessandro Nesta and Clarence Seedorf and also sold two of the star players of the new era Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva to Paris Saint Germain.

Boateng began exhibiting sub-par performances though he wore the number 10 shirt. In the 2013 Champions League Round of 16 he did all he could but Milan eventually fell off to FC Barcelona in a 2-4 aggregate.

Boateng’s move to Schalke O4 was as a result of him being injury prone and not being able to feature week in and week out.

Schalke O4 parted ways with Boateng in 2015 and he rejoined Milan for the second half of the season but he just made a handful of appearances due to Milan’s coaching course changing along the season.

For Boateng to fall in the perking order in terms of the best players in the world down to not been rumoured to be interesting any club shows the extent to which injury goes to indirectly end the careers of some footballers.

Boateng is not done and only time would tell where his next destination would be because the world should see more of the hardworking midfielder.
