Arsenal Should Buy a Striker Before the Transfer Window Ends

Arsenal has not won the English Premier League since 2004 and the 2015/16 campaign was the season Arsene Wenger and his troops should have made a mark on the league but they could not and saw Leicester City win the Premiership against all odds.

The 2016/17 season of the Premier League is only a week away with many teams in the Premiership strengthening and adding depth to their squads. Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City who are the main rivals of Arsenal are all active in this summer transfer window but Arsenal seems to have relapsed after signing Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Arsenal always makes the top four of the Premier League table and have four competitions to aim for and thus the English League, FA Cup, Capital One Cup and the UEFA Champions League. The team creates all the chances with Mesut Ozil playing a peripheral role in assisting goals but the team lacks a potent striker who can fire up Arsenal to their first Premier League title since 2004 and also win the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the Club's history.

Olivier Giroud is the leading man for Arsenal and he has been supported expertly by Joel Campbell. The likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla are not players who have made it their responsiblities to score goals so burdening Olivier Giroud with this task greatly affects the French striker.

At EURO 2016 France played Antoine Griezmann behind Giroud the same way Diego Simeone plays Griemann behind Fernando Torres and Griezmann was able to score six goals in the competition because he also loves to find the back of the net. This clearly shows that Giroud needs a partner upfront, a striker who loves to play and also has a goal scoring instinct.

Arsenal Needs to Back Giroud With A Striking Partner

In the Champions League Round of 16 match against Barcelona, Giroud normally passed the ball to Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez although he was in a position where he could shoot but he needed the assistance of someone who would want to score.
In a nutshell, Giroud cannot survive on his own and would need an Antoine Griezmann type of partner to aid him with the task of scoring goals.

Barcelona plays with Luis Suarez upfront but Messi and Neymar together contribute over 70 goals to the team every season therefore Suarez has a backup to keep him in check. The same thing cannot be said of Sanchez, Ozil, Ramsey and Cazorla because they are not interested in scoring goals.

Arsene Wenger should make it a priority to sign a striker before the transfer window closes. Olivier Giroud might have given Arsenal fans renewed hope amid his performances at the UEFA EURO 2016 but he had a supporting star in Antoine Griezmann, a player who takes some of the pressure off his shoulders.

The 2016/17 season is by far the biggest in the leagues history amid the pedigree of managers joining the league as well as the crop of players joining the train and thereforeArsenal would need players who have enough firepower in their boots to help Arsenal win laurels this coming season.
