The NBA is a bird-dog with a major change, announcing Wilson as the new MLB's Ball Manufacturer for Season 2021-22. There have been very rare moments in history when the NBA had thought of bringing about any tweaks in its equipment. In the 75-year history of Major League Baseball, there have been only four such changes & that too did not last for long as the players reviled and were not happy about this change. This resulted in the league requiring to roll-back the change. One such instance was when there came an announcement of switching to the synthetic ball from leather in 2006.
We will be witnessing another such change in the NBA 2021-22 season — Wilson will be taking over as the official ball manufacturer for NBA season 2021-22. Currently, the ball is manufactured by Spalding. The good news with this change of the season is the ball will be manufactured with similar specifications as it holds in before. The league has its ducks in a row with regard to this new shift. It’s going to be a multiyear agreement between Wilson Sporting Goods Co. and NBA. According to this multi-year agreement, Wilson will become the official game ball for NBA G League, Basketball Africa League (BAL), NBA 2K League, and Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).
It would be the NBA’s 75th anniversary season in 2021-22 when the Wilson game ball would be first used in the NBA. Debut with others would include 2021-22 NBA G League season, 2League season, the inaugural BALL season, 021 NBA 2K, and the 2022 WNBA season. The NBA officials think that this Partnership with Wilson will take the league back to where it started. In 1946, across 37 seasons back, it was Wilson that manufactured the first NBA basketballs. The league is hoping for a long-term association with Wilson. Wilson has had a great partnership with the NBA in the past and their deep-running passion for the game is enough to understand that both the parties are beginning the second stupendous phase of their partnership. They have agreed to support the league, the players & coaches with high-performance advanced basketball.
The players along with the NBA officials will work in action with Wilson through the process of manufacturing, approving, and deploying the new basketball. The new ball will use similar specifications that were used in manufacturing the previously used ball — same material, performance specifications, the same leather, and the same eight-panel configurations would be used. Players will not have to witness much difference with all these similarities in the specifications of the new balls. This is going to be a careful and conscious decision of the league and the new ball will only be deployed to work once the players & the league officials approve.
