In November of 2015, 26 year old Anthony Crolla from The United Kingdom earned the WBA title after knocking out Daraleys Perez(32-1-1) in the fifth round. Later, in the beginning of May Crolla was forced to be a mandatory challenger against Ismael Barroso(19-0-2), whom he also knocked out. Both of these knock outs committed against Crolla’s fellow U.K. natives were achieved with body punches. Crolla now has 31 wins, 4 losses, and 3 draws; 13 of his wins concluded with knock outs.
Crolla has seemingly been dodging a fight with Flanagan, who is currently holding the WBO Lightweight Title.
“They don’t want the fight, it’s as simple as that. Frank [Warren] isn’t making it hard for them. He’s not being difficult. If anything, he’s bending over backwards to make it happen. He’s giving in to their demands. He has put the ball in their court and said they can have it on Sky Sports. But they still don’t want it”.
-Terry Flanagan
Flanagan, who has an undefeated record with 30 wins and 12 knockouts will now be fighting South Africa’s Mzonke Fana. This bout will take place July 9 on a Tyson Fury undercard.
Jorge Linares has recently stepped up and stated that he is ready to take on Crolla. Linares has 40 wins, 3 Losses, and 0 Draws. He was recently stripped of his WBC title after missing a mandatory fight against Dejan Zlaticanin due to a hand injury. Linares will now be facing Anthony Crolla on September 24 in Manchester.
