Newman Withdraws from College Football Season 2020

Jamie Newman, Georgia quarterback withdraws from the college football season 2020. The reason he has quoted for opting out is — to prepare for the NFL Draft 2021. Newman joined the team in January when he threw 26 touchdowns & 2,868 yards (2.62 km) for Demon Deacons.

Newman in his statement said that "With much prayer and discussion with my family I would like to announce that due to the uncertainties of this year amid a global pandemic, I will officially opt-out of this football season to prepare for the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. I would like to thank coach Smart for extending the opportunity for me to be a part of the University of Georgia football program. Although my time has been short, I've built some great relationships and I've had a chance to continue my development."

The SEC and UGA return-to-play protocols.

The Health & safety of the student-athletes has been the top priority for the SEC and UGA return-to-play protocols. Right from the beginning, the fulcrum of the protocol has been pretty clear — any athlete who decides to opt-out because of the CPVID-19 concerns would be supported throughout and would remain in good reputation with the team. The organization said that it is in full support of Jamie's decision and there would not be any difference to his status. He will still be a Georgia Bulldog, and he very much knows the kind of place UGA will always hold for him. The team wished him the best of luck for his NFL career.

Newman’s Decision to Opt-out paves the way for JT Daniels.

Newman’s decision to opt-out from season 2020 can pave the way for JT Daniels. While there are other candidates including D'Wan Mathis, Carson Beck& junior Stetson Bennett — but Daniel could be lucky. Georgia is slated to begin the season against Arkansas on September 26. Daniel could not get clearance medically, last week — if he clears it this week, it could be a positive sign for him in starting his job at UGA. Since he had been transferred from USC this offseason, Daniels had received an eligibility waiver. The question still remains — how serious this quarterback competition is going to be?

Daniels could have been a better sophomore star at USC in the last season, but the knee injury proved to be bad for him. He was all confident about playing his potential until playing against Fresno State at the end of the season, he suffered the injury, which limited him being in the preseason camp. Let’s see how it goes for Daniels at Georgia — with three weeks still left for their opener.

If not Daniels — whom to be considered?

With the decision to opt-out of the college football season 2020, Newman plans to venture on his journey to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft. He would be almost absolutely keeping him away from the program's quarterback picture. This makes out that Daniels could get as many as four seasons to play. In the class of 2018, Daniels was named as the No. 18 overall prospect, and as a true freshman, he threw for 2,672 yards (2.44 km).

However, the question mark is hovering around Daniels with him returning from an ACL injury. In case, the Bulldogs do not clear him for the season opener, junior quarterback Stetson Bennett may be considered. Last season, Bennett appeared for four games playing as a backup for Jake Fromm.
