Justin Gatlin and Yohan Blake Disappoint Again in 200m Semis

The semi-finals of the Rio Olympics came off on Wednesday with Usain Bolt qualifying to the finals with a time of 19.78 seconds.

Once again, Gatlin and Blake failed this time by not making the final to challenge Usain Bolt. This has undoubtedly gifted Bolt a relatively easy chance of winning gold in the 200m final which comes off on Thursday.

Blake has been hampered with injury and that has culminated in his poor showing at the Games so far. With this kind of problem, Yohan Blake must be thanking his stars for getting the chance to compete and making 20.37 seconds in his semi-finals.

Justin Gatlin on the other hand has been in and out of athletics for doping offences and on Wednesday clocked 20.13. Age has not been on Gatlin’s side as at age 34 he is still pulling the strings but new sprinters are up and running and Gatlin’s Olympics seem all but over.

Bolt Set for an Easy Win after Blake and Gatlin Exits

Bolt said in an interview with the BBC “I definitely think I can try for the world record, I definitely feel that.” With the 3-time 100m Olympic gold medalist faced with the task of competing against himself and new names in the 200m final, it looks all but settled but the story would have been different if these two athletes were in the final.

At the moment, Great Britain’s Adam Gemili, 22 and LaShawn Meritt pose the biggest threat to the Jamaican star.

The 200m race comes off on Thursday at 6:30PM PST
