2.Bundesliga and German Football

Bundesliga is professional football in Germany. Its second level was established in May 1973 in West Germany as 2.Bundesliga. It is organized by DFL every year since its operation began in August in 1974. So far, 127 clubs have participated in this league.

It follows the promotion and relegation format, which makes it more exciting and important in German Football. It is the second level league in the order of football in Germany. The fact that this league decides promotion of the club to the Bundesliga makes the fans so keen over it. The Bundesliga is the topmost level of professional football in Germany and witnesses a clash of major clubs every year.

Currently, 18 teams take part in this championship risking relegation to 3.Liga. This is the third level of Germany's professional football in the pyramid. The records of viewership were broken by 2.Bundesliga in 2016-17 when an average of 21,717 people watched this league. It became the world’s most-watched secondary football league during that season.

During the era of German Reunification in 1991-92, 24 clubs participated in the 2.Bundesliga. The Single Division Era started in the next season. 46 games were played by the 24 teams in a single league, and this format continues till today. Only the number of clubs has been reduced to 18 from 24.

Prominent Clubs of 2.Bundesliga

2.Bundesliga witnesses the participation of most prominent clubs in the country. Being the second level league, it holds much importance for the clubs who wish to be promoted to the top level. The most famous club is FC Nurnberg, having the credit for winning the most number of championships.

This title is jointly shared by FC Koln. Both these clubs have won 4 championships each of the 2.Bundesliga. These belong to the cities of Nuremberg and Cologne respectively. Other clubs that frequent the news with their action are Arminia Bielefeld, VfB Stuttgart, Hannover 96, and Hamburger SV.

Although all the clubs have great prominence in their cities, these are ones whose games are looked forward to by everyone in Germany. Cities of Dresden, Bochum, Kiel, Osnabruck, etc. also have a club playing in the 2.Bundesliga aiming to secure promotion to the top league.

The Season Of 2019-20

The 2.Bundesliga lasts almost 10 months, with a gap of 2 months before the next one begins. This season began on July 26, 2019. With many exciting games still lined up, it was all set to conclude on May 17, 2020. However, the plans of the sports world weren't very successful this time. Most ongoing events were disrupted in March, when the world saw coronavirus pandemic spreading like wildfire, taking lives everywhere it went.

The current season was halted on March 13, 2020; two months of play still being left. When the conditions became safe again to continue the matches, 2.Bundesliga resumed with no spectators. The German football fans began to sway in cheer again on May 16. The updated date for the end of this season as per the new schedule is June 28. With the eyes trained on players, this season's end is going to be dramatic and historic.

Picks And Predictions

The upcoming games are all set in light of tough competition. The teams' performance has not been very predictable after their return. May 27 will see three clashes. The first will be played between Hannover 96 and Karlsruher SC, and the expert pick is Hannover. Prediction is made that the score of average 2.5 goals will be crossed.

The other game of the day will be played between St. Pauli and FC Heidenheim. It is predicted to be a draw with a score of 1:1 which is lower than the average. 2. Bundesliga matches are usually high-scoring. Many of them conclude to a draw and it is not very uncommon for a game to end in no result.

The third game of May 27 will be a battle between Bochum and Holstein Kiel which is also suggested to end in a draw. But the score is predicted to 2:2, which is more than the average. There is going to be a lot of action for football fans now after the desertion of two months.
