Soccer Picks and Predictions For La Liga Week 33

Author: Priyanka Saxena on Jul 02,2020

The 2019 - 2020 season of La Liga is back in play after an extended hiatus, and the stakes are higher now, with some of the biggest clashes coming our way this game week. Two of the biggest games to keep your eye on - both for the action, it promises to bring and the betting opportunities it presents - Barcelona v. Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid v. Getafe. Let’s take a look at the odds for each of these games, and also explore some other noteworthy games to take place in week 33.

Barcelona v. Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona is lagging only slightly behind Real Madrid in the title race, whereas Atletico Madrid is comfortable in its third place. The third place is well-deserved, given their four consecutive wins. But it is unlikely that they will make up the point difference to be in contention for the title. The team is well suited to continue their winning streak, given how easily they have passed through their previous games, allowing only one goal from the opposition during the entire tenure. Madrid has its eyes set on more than just this league, they will also be looking to finish strong before they head off into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Barcelona looks like it won’t necessarily be able to keep up with Madrid. Their game history shows a bit of sloppiness and difficulty in scoring, with them conceding goals against Sevilla and barely winning 1-0 against Athletic Bilbao. There are six games remaining in the league, and this game holds importance because it could make or break Barcelona’s dream of lifting the title. The issues plaguing them are only growing, with fans openly criticizing the strategy. Messi’s zero goals since the season reopened only adds to the problem. Barcelona has to win this game to continue in the hope of the title, but comparing both the teams’ form shows us that Barcelona might be expecting too much.

My prediction for this match - Atletico Madrid. The team’s consecutive wins should bring confidence that they can win this away match, although a tie is also likely.

Real Madrid v. Getafe

Real Madrid has been on a winning spree since the lockdown ended and gameplay began. They have won all five games that they have played ever since. This came as somewhat of a shocker as they jumped ahead of Barcelona, in the standings, and have a very good chance of lifting the title. They’ve opened up a lead between themselves and Barcelona, and because of Barcelona’s poor gameplay in its past few matches, it is easy to bet on Real Madrid to lift the title.

About the match against Getafe, Real Madrid stands a great chance of winning. They have a fantastic lineup - the forwards for attacking have been well utilized. They have also been playing good defense, even though they are not known for their defense skills. The fact that they have made it out with three clean sheets in the past four-games shows that they will be able to manage their game well.

Getafe does have a good lineup, as it would be wrong to disregard talent where it lies. But their issue against Real Madrid is that their attack is not much compared to the power that Real Madrid can bring with their attack. Their record isn’t bad, but they don’t have a single win in five games played after the season resumed. They have lost only one game, but the lack of wins shows that their attack requires more to swing a game in their favor. With only three goals and has allowed four goals in their past five games, they seem to be doing okay, but not good enough. This is why my prediction is that Real Madrid will win this game, whether narrowly or with some significant carnage.

Leganes v. Sevilla

Fourth place Sevilla will take on the near last place Leganes away from home this week. A true mismatch of opponents, one look at the league standings, and the current form of both the teams should tell you that Sevilla will post an easy win. Sevilla has only drawn its past four matches but is only one point behind Atletico Madrid. They should be able to win this game with ease despite the consecutive draws in their record - because this opponent shouldn’t be as challenging as their previous few opponents. Given that Leganes has posted five consecutive losses in its most recent matches, Sevilla should win.
