Soccer Betting Picks For Serie A Round 28

Author: Mansi

Italy’s Serie A is back, just like all the sports restarting across the world. This round is only the second full round of fixtures being played after the lockdown. Last week saw four make up games played before the new round began. Atalanta and Juventus are starting strong, and their individual wins have extended the title race by four points, with Juve in the lead. They will be looking to widen the point gap when they begin Round 28 by playing against Lecce.

After Lazio’s loss to Atlanta, they will be looking to win against SPAL. While it may seem like the title race is getting closer, there are eleven more rounds remaining, which means it could be anyone’s race. The past week showed us that the home team advantage doesn’t hold good anymore and that teams are scoring goals comfortably. Here are some matches worth betting on this round -

Udinese v. Atalanta

This is a Sunday afternoon game that pits fourth place, Atalanta, against the 15th place Udinese. The game is a mismatched one which heavily leans in favor of Atalanta. Given their current form, including their recent win against 2nd place Lazio, solidifies their chances of moving ahead in the title race. A win against Udinese will only boost their chances further, as their resilience was shown as they caught up to Lazio’s 2-0 with 3 goals by the 80’ minute.

The Udinese team has very little going for them. In their past nine games, both this league and the Coppa, they have not managed to win a single one. Their ninth loss was cemented by their loss to Torino last week.

Looking back at the last time these teams played, Atalanta posted a massive win against them at 7-1. The team is probably the best one to Bet on if you're not doing so based on team loyalties. Their gameplay is smooth and well-controlled, and their attack is top-notch. They aren't well known for their defense, but even that shouldn't be an issue as it's unlikely that Udinese will be able to score to win. My prediction here is Atalanta, you could comfortably bet on them this game.

Cagliari v. Torino

Saturday's highlight game is between these two, who are well pitted against each other. They’re both sitting comfortably in the middle of the table, but with eleven more rounds left, their momentum shouldn’t lose any steam this soon. This will make for a competitive game. Cagliari sits in seventh place with only a seven-point difference separating them from the sixth place. The top six spots are coveted as they qualify for the Europa League. Torino fares worse, in the seventeenth position.

Both these teams have played two games apiece after the season restarted. Cagliari won one narrowly and lost the other. The win comes after a dry spell since December, before which they had gone 13 matches without one win. Torino is no better, as pre-shutdown they were sporting a seven-game winless streak. They drew in their first match after the season reopened and finally won a game against Udinese.

Cagliari is definitely the better team, even though both the teams’ recent records are nothing to boast about and show poor form. Despite this, the technicals of Cagliari seem more promising than Torino’s. But looking at the history between these two teams makes things a little more complicated. Their previous three encounters have all ended in draws, either 0-0 or 1-1. My prediction based on this would be another draw this week.

Sassuolo v. Verona

Sassuolo started its run after the lockdown playing against the most difficult teams - Atalanta and Inter Milan. Playing against these two was definitely not a morale booster for the team, but they did manage to draw their match against Inter Milan at 3-3, despite losing 4-1 in their other game. Verona is still in the race to make it to the top 6 and snag a spot in the Europa League. They beat Cagliari but lost to Napoli in their latest two games after the season resumed.

Both these teams have different playing styles - Verona plays a defensive game with them allowing only 29 goals over 27 matches. Their style leads to bets which are very rarely over 2.5 goals. Looking at the history between the two teams, Sassuolo won over Verona 1-0 this year before the lockdown. Two of their three previous games were won by Sassuolo, which is why my pick would be Sassuolo.
