Atalanta vs. Inter Milan is the most exciting match on the final day of the 2019/20 season. Inter Milan currently holds the 2nd place while Atalanta is in 3rd place. It has been a very successful season for Atalanta. Not only have they finished their Serie A campaign in a Champions League place, but they are also one of the two Italians sides still in with a chance of winning the Champion League this season. For Inter, they had started the season very strongly, but due to some bad results at the start of the year, they fell behind Juventus and failed to win the Serie A title.
Atalanta’s chances-
They have been outstanding since the restart, and they scored in every match since then. In total, they have scored 28 goals since the reboot. At the same time, they have remained unbeaten and were the biggest threat to Juventus at the top of the standings. Currently, they hold 3rd place in the standings with 78 points.
They have scored 98 goals in the league and have conceded just 46 goals. Even though they can’t win the title now, they can still fight to win 2nd place. Even if they don’t finish in 2nd place, it won’t matter much because the top 4 always qualify automatically for the Champions League.
Ahead of this clash, the coach has a selection dilemma. He has to pick from two in-form strikers, Duvan Zapata and Luis Muriel. Both have scored 19 goals this season. Zapata has even caught the eye of Serie A champions Juventus, looking for an ideal replacement for Higuain if the South American decides to leave.
Atalanta is still with their star man and top scorer Josip Ilicic, but his absence has not been felt as his teammates have assisted well. Since Ilicic’s injury, Ruslan Malinovskiy has stepped up his game massively. He will be looking to reach double figures in goals in his first season in Serie A. Their wing-back, Robin Gosens, has also been in fine form with 18 goal contributions this season. He will be looking to end the season on a high.
Atalanta’s home form is one of the best in the league. In their last three home games, they have beaten Bologna, Brescia, and Sampdoria convincingly, so Inter would have to work hard to get any points.
Inter Milan’s fortune-
Inter has also played well since the restart, and they are undefeated in their last seven games in Serie A. They are currently second in league with 79 points. The surprising stat is that the Intern has lost fewer games than Juventus, but due to the number of draws, they lost out on the title. Their defense is best in the league while their case is second best. They have conceded only 36 goals. Their top scorer is Romelu Lukaku with 23 goals while their other striker, Lautaro Martinez, has added another 14 goals.
The last time they faced a SERIE-A team, Lukaku gifted his penalty to a 17-year-old prodigy who in fact, didn’t miss his chance. This shows how dangerous the entire team is. Alexis Sanchez and Candreva both have assisted seven times this season. Their Champions League run was not so unbeaten, though. They finished third in their group and demoted to the knockout stages of the Europa League. They will play Getafe in the quarter-final, and to be fair, their season did not end well. But you never know because these competitions are very unpredictable.
In their last match against Napoli, they won 2-0. Inter Milan has an away record of 12 wins, four draws and two defeats in 19 games. They have scored 39 goals and conceded 19. In their last three away matches, they have two wins and one draw, and they have scored at least two goals in each of those goals. January signing Christian Eriksen needs to offer more to convince his coach that he can be a first-team player.
There are no injuries in the team, and all the players are in good form. And if Alexis Sanchez can put in convincing performances in these last few games, they may sign him on a permanent deal from Manchester United.
