Greg Vanney, the Toronto FC Head Coach who is known for guiding the team to three appearances in the Major League Soccer final has stepped down. Vanney who was also the technical director of the team is known for helping Toronto FC win MLS Cup, the Canadian Championship, and the Supporters' Shield. He has almost all the records Toronto FC, which also includes wins (112) and matches managed (250). Greg Vanney took charge of the team at the time of the 2014 season.

Talking about this new development, Vanney said, “I want to thank Mr. Tanenbaum, the board of directors, and MLSE for their unwavering support for the past seven years. I recognize that I have been extremely fortunate to work for one of the best ownership groups in all of the sports. I also want to thank Bill [Manning] and Ali [Curtis] for their support and leadership and most importantly the relationships we’ve developed over the years. Thank you to all of the TFC staff and players for the incredible experiences we’ve shared together during this journey. I’m forever grateful to each of you. Lastly, to the TFC Fans. You’re truly amazing and the memories and emotions from our biggest nights together will be cherished.”

Toronto FC Before Greg Vanney:

Greg, when took over as the head coach of the Toronto FC in 2014, said that he was "handed the keys to what was a Ferrari in development". In eight years, Vanney was the ninth coach for the team at that time. When Vanney took over as the head coach of TFC, the team was an incompetent franchise that was known for an all-time MLS record of 60-114-72 and never gotten the chance to make it to the playoffs. Vanney took over a club that had played incompetent under the fired coach Ryan Nelsen and had won only one game out of the six games. Vanney had literally churned the team to get more out of the players.

Toronto FC Under Vanney:

The Toronto club was not as popular and did not enjoy the reputation as it did after Vanney joined the team as the head coach. In the first eight seasons of Major League Soccer, the club could not make the playoffs -- it was only when Vanney coached the team for the full season. Apart from the 2017 treble, Vanney also responsibly helped the team to win two more Canadian Championship titles. And, the club also earned two more trips to the MLS Cup. In addition to that, the team also had the chance to reach the Champions League final in 2018, where they lost in the penalties. Until now, no MLS team has been able to win this championship.

Talking about this whole episode, Bill Manning, the TFC president said, “I wish Greg nothing but the best in the future. Back in 2014, he took over the head coach duties for a team that had never made the playoffs and turned them into an MLS champion. More than that, he is of high character and a great family man. I thank him for time well served for our club, his legacy here in Toronto is secure.” The club had informed that the search for a new coach will start very soon. Let’s see who comes on board.
