Author: Raphael Minter

Spain has faced two fast exists in the last two years after exiting the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 and losing out to Italy at the Euros.

Prior to their group stage exit in 2014 Spain won three of the four competitions they played winning the Euro 2008, FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010, Euro 2012 and losing out to Brazil in the 2013 Confederations Cup final.

Andres Iniesta has paid his dues to the Spanish national team but his performance against Italy clearly shows that he does not have the strength and the urgency to win anymore. Aside this, he has won everything there is to win for club and country.

Spain’s midfield trio of Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas leaves all the hard work on the shoulders of Busquets because the other two are focused on attacking play.

Midfielders such as Bruno Soriano, Koke, Isco and Thiago Alcantara should be given the nod to steer the affairs in midfield and help win Silverware for the country since they were not a part of the old era.

Spain has started well using David De Gea as their number one goalkeeper and need to take such decisions if they are to take the position they deserve on world football.

Spain Has La Liga to Keep Them in Check

Unlike England where the national team and the clubs are struggling in Europe, Spain has won the last six club competitions with Sevilla winning a treble of the Uefa Europa League and Real Madrid and FC Barcelona dominating the Champions League whiles Atletico Madrid stands as favorites year in and year out.

Spain has the talent to thrive but needs to usher out the old era in order to bring in the new.

For now, they have the World Cup qualifications to play and would surely make a statement in the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018.
