How Does Samuel Umtiti Improves Barcelona’s Defense

Barcelona has signed Olympique Lyonnais defender Samuel Umtiti for €25 million.

The French defender represented France at the Euros and cemented his place at the defense relegating Adil Rami to the bench and forming a formidable partnership with Laurent Koscielny.

At 22, Samuel Umtiti goes to FC Barcelona competing with Javier Mascherano, Gerard Pique, Jeremy Mathieu and Thomas Vermaelen for spots.

Luis Enrique and FC Barcelona suffered an early exit in the Champions League because the defense could not contain the mesmerizing play of Antoine Griezmann. His two goals in the second leg saw Diego Simeone’s soldiers match to the final at the expense of FC Barcelona.

Samuel Umtiti to Strengthen Barcelona’s Defense

Samuel Umtiti is going to change all the defensive woes of the club amid his performances for Olympique Lyonnais and France at the Euros.

Although Umtiti is not a goal scoring defender, he connects beautifully with the midfielders in initiating attacks and intercepts opposing plays.

Whether central defensive partnerships of Umtiti Pique, Umtiti Mascherano, Umtiti Vermaelen or Umtiti Mathieu, Barcelona have gotten a defender who would free up Sergio Busquets defensive attribute and Busquets would be able to surge on runs without thinking about the defensive line.

Luis Enrique and FC Barcelona have made the best signing in the 2016/17 season and the French international’s contributions is going to provide invaluable support to the team in La Liga, Copa Del Rey and the Uefa Champions League.

Umtiti’s buyout clause has been set at €60 million.
