In the first round of the US Open, Serena Williams moved a step further towards grabbing the 24th grand slam title and equaling the record. Williams defeated Kristie Ahn in the first round of the US Open with 7-5, 6-2. However, in the first set of the game, Williams looked nervous making a slow start, but she kicked at her own pace in the second set of the game. With 28 winners & 13 aces, she kept her opponent on the run.

102nd Singles US Open match victory for Serena Willians.

The sports star was definitely not chasing the tennis record, but her 102nd singles victory at the US Open, which is the highest any player (male category or female category) has made. Williams, the most popular women player of the 21st century lost the Western & Southern Open to Maria Sakkari. The last few months have been challenging for Williams, in fact, for the entire sports fraternity. It has been tough for her to make her way to the victory against Ahn.

Williams in the second set of the game made Ahn make a mistake, which gave an opportunity to turn the game around in her favor. With this victory, William moved one step closer to his 24th grand slam title. This was the first straight-sets win for William after the game came to a halt due to the coronavirus outbreak. She confessed that it was tough for her to get into the pace of the game as Ahn played an outstanding inning.

Williams will be facing Russia’s Margarita Gasparyan in the next game of the US Open. Talking about Ahn game William said, “She really strikes the ball really hard. She mixes up a lot. She plays a lot of different shots. You don’t really know what to expect.”

Tennis since the coronavirus outbreak.

William has not played or won any matches since she returned to the game after the coronavirus outbreak. She jokingly said it seemed as if she had not played for years. “It's been years. Been since the ’90s that I won a match in straight sets. It felt really good. I was like, ‘Serena, just be Serena and close it out. And I know I can do that.”

The superstar is playing the fourth decade of his career championing the game. It was in 1998 that William played her first US Open and in 1999 she won her first US Open. With his first victory, she became a tennis star globally, and she still remains a star at the age of 38. She still continues to make records and is only a few steps away from grabbing her 24th Grand Slam singles title.

However, with her 102nd singles victory, she broke the record and showed a lot of improvements, yet there is room for more. This was not the rock-solid kind of performance that could leave goosebumps running all across the body. At the US open, William definitely has an opportunity to come back with that performance belonging to her.

Per the experts, Williams looks fit & motivated. But, she seems to have lost the special talent of keeping the opponents intimidated with her game, which looked quite evident during this game, she played against Ahn.
