Top Three College Football Teams this Season

Author: Priyanka Saxena on Jul 03,2020

We are still clueless as to the college football season taking place this season. But, of course, we are hoping that we could get to see teams come on the field. Until we have no clue until we cannot be sure of anything, we can talk about the probable list of top contending college football teams this season.

In the last 28 years, there have been only 14 different college football programs making it to winning a national championship out of 130 teams. This necessarily indicates there are many waiting for their first title to come. Let’s talk about five top contenders in the list of winning their first title.

Let’s get started.

  1. Texas A&M

Head coach: Jimbo Fisher

Conference: NCAA Southeastern Conference Football

Bowl record: 18–22 (.450)

Last national title: 1939

Texas A&M represents Texas A&M University in the sport of American football. Texas A&M football has to name 18 conference titles and three national titles. All the home games are played on the university’s 102,733-person capacity outdoor stadium.

Texas A&M has a difficult path to the CFP. They need to go through Alabama, Auburn, and LSU in the SEC West. These are the four programs that are winning a national title in the last decade and one which lost a national title game a few years ago. While Texas is far from winning the title for arguable reasons, yet there is no dearth of talented players.

The Texas team has the potential to win the title. Jimbo Fisher had proved at Florida State that he could take his team to the win. While there have not yet been any real results there is still hope from team TAMU. There is no dearth of talent, and we can very much put the team on this list.

  1. Oregon Ducks.

Head coach: Mario Cristobal

National finalist: 2 (2010, 2014)

Playoff record: 1–1 (.500)

Last national title: N/A

Oregon is the only one on this list that has no national title on its name. Before Bellotti showed and Phil Knight came in, it had mostly played only mediocre games. Even after their arrival into the game, there wasn’t much hope coming up until 2007 and 2008 in Bellotti's final seasons. It was when Chip Kelly when Oregon reached the title game for the first time playing under Mark Helfrich — but they lost this to Ohio State.

However, under Mario Cristobal, there have been positive developments, but Ducks have not yet reached where they should be. They won the Pac-12 going 12-2 in the last season. Things are turning around — the recruiting efforts have improved, for instance. Oregon has started recruiting like a national champion — which means that they are moving closer to making it happen.

  1. Georgia Bulldogs.

Head coach: Kirby Smart

Arena/Stadium: Sanford Stadium

Last national title: 1980

This list has to consider two things in particular — talent & a Power Five conference game. Bulldogs were one of the perfect choices. In recent years, Bulldogs have already reached that level in the College Football Playoff, and they were very near to winning a title. That makes out that they are ostensibly potential to win the title. Kirby Smart had a very important role in helping Bulldogs reach close to competing in the SEC with amazing recruitment skills.

There are chances that none of these teams may win the title this year or maybe in the coming few years, but it is fun to talk about these new contenders for the title. It’s exciting to see some new teams making up to the finals and winning the title unexpectedly.
