49ers: Quarterback Battle between Gabbert and Kaepernick

Author: Priyanka Saxena on Oct 07,2016

The San Francisco 49ers has not been on a good run as they are on a 1-4 form at the moment in the season. On Thursday, they were completely outmatched by the Arizona Cardinals during a 33-21 loss. How do the 49ers get back together and how do they resolve the quarterback situation in order to get their season back on track?

Head coach Chip Kelly has come under intense pressure as fans and pundits feel he might have been too complacent with his gamble and selection between Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick.

After the game he stressed that he has not reached a consensus on either to maintain Gabbert at the quarterback role he has been charged with or switch to the man who made the headlines in recent weeks, Colin Kaepernick.

According to Kevin Jones of KNBR in San Francisco, Gabbert has accept the fact that he has let him team and the 49ers organization down on Thursday by doing his best which proved too little to help the team carry on as winners of the day.

Gabbert Has Not Lived To Expectations for the 49ers

Gabbert has failed to live up to expectations and as the crowd cheered Kaepernick’s name throughout the game, it meant that his days in the offense of the 49ers are numbered and might be taken over by Kaepernick if his situation does not improve.

Kaepernick taken the role would come with no pressure at all. In 2012, he led San Francisco to the Super Bowl and to the NFC Championship Game in 2013.

He can spice up the offense of the 49ers with the help of running back Carlos Hyde.

Many coaches often struggle when their teams are on a bad run of form because the games come in thick and fast. San Francisco coach Chip Kelly has nothing of that as he has until October 16 to feature his team again. This gives Blaine Gabbert the time to recover and improve on his performances to get the 49ers back on track. On the other hand, the ample time available to Chip Kelly would aid him in designing a new strategy centered round Kaepernick to help the 49ers get their season back together if Gabbert was to be replaced.

San Francisco should make the news for all the good reasons and not the bad. Fans, pundits and critics are just hoping that 49ers would be back because this is a much needed break the team needs.
